in remembrance of Elton M. Hermes



Elton M. Hermes

October 21, 1935 - June 6, 2023


Elton Milford Hermes, 87, of Jacksonville passed from this life into the next to be

with our Lordand Savior, Jesus Christ on Tuesday, June 6, 2023. He was born

October 21, 1935 to Oscar and Katherine (Kalka) Hermes of Bandera, Texas.


He joined the USAF in 1953, retiring from service in 1974. After his service he

settled in Vilonia on his small farm and became the school's bus mechanic until

1979. Over the next years of life, he worked as a school bus driver, boiler maker

for ABCO in TX and then drove a school bus for Pulaski County Schools until

retiring from there. He was a faithful member of Little Rock AFB

Chapel and loved cooking the sausage for their fellowship breakfasts. In recent

years he began attending Conway Cowboy Church with some of his family.


The things he enjoyed in life were hard work, traveling, RV camping, family

reunions, church, serving people and fellowship to name a few.


He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 55 years, Gweneth Faye

(Merryman) Hermes; his son, Sammy Ray Hermes and his siblings, Joseph

Marcus and Julius Ray Hermes (infants), Charles Oscar Hermes, Kathryn

Elizabeth Wahrmund and Mable Ann Schultz and also one

granddaughter, Stephanie Marie Hermes.


He leaves behind 3 children, Dianna Jean Key (Kenneth), David Lynn Hermes

and Delton Mark Hermes (Jennifer) all of Jacksonville; 4 siblings, Mary Fern

Griggs of Missouri, Evelyn Rose Backus of Florida, Patricia Joyce Bailey of

Conway, Leona Magdaline Edgman (Tommy) of Conway and

Larry Raymond Hermes (Pam) of Florida; 9 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren;

36 nieces andnephews; numerous great-nieces, nephews and

family; his very special friend and love, Angie Shugart and last but certainly not

least, Wrango his Chihuahua, whom he loved dearly. He will be remembered as

a loving father, a hardworking and caring soul who loved family and

friends, with an exceeding passion to help others.


A visitation will be from 6:00pm to 8:00pm Sunday, June 11, 2023 at Roller-

McNutt Funeral Home in Conway. Funeral Service will be at 10:00am Monday,

June 12, 2023 at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will follow at

Crestlawn Memorial Park in Conway.
